The first experimental laser was designed in the 1960s and it is only at the end of the 1990s that the laser became widely traded as a permanent hair removal solution. Thanks to technological progress, laser hair removal methods have evolved tremendously. With more than 30 years of hindsight, their efficiency and safety are broadly acknowledged by scientists.
At CLINIK, we chose to use medical equipment which has been specifically designed for laser hair removal. Those machines require a substantial financial investment but they are globally recognized for their reliability and effectiveness. The Alexandrite laser used for lighter skin types is the only market technology to achieve results as of 5 sessions. The medical Diode, used mainly for darker skin types, achieves results after an average of 8 sessions.

Laser hair removal derives from the principle of photoepilation, which directs light on the hair bulb in order to heat and destroy it. The Alexandrite medical laser (class 4) produces a single wavelength, making it extremely precise and more effective than other hair removal techniques, regardless of hair type.
It is a popular option for permanent hair removal due to its effectiveness, speed and ability to selectively target hair follicles while protecting the surrounding skin. However, it is essential that the treatment be carried out by qualified professionals to guarantee safe and effective results.
The medical Diode (class 4) emits a specific wavelength spectrum that can be tailored to selectively target melanin present in hair follicles while minimizing damage to surrounding skin. This makes it particularly effective and safe for darker skins, where melanin is more abundant.
The price per session is slightly lower than that of medical laser, but this technology requires more sessions.
Aesthetic Diodes (class 1 to 3) are less powerful than class 4 lasers, and require a lower investment when purchasing the device.
They are less effective than medical lasers for all hair types, and require more sessions. Moreover, they often only weaken the germ cell. In the majority of cases, more than 15 sessions are required to obtain results, whereas the Alexandrite medical laser can achieve satisfactory results in just 5 sessions.
Pulsed light (also called flash lamps or IPL) is not a laser. It is a technology of light flashes. Its light spectrum is larger and therefore less precise than laser.
Some low-powered machines which require little investment are often used by beauty practitioners and salons. In most cases, pulsed light only weakens the germ cell.
This hair removal technique consists in sending an electric current in the root of each hair in order to prevent regrowth. This method requires the treatment of each hair one by one and is therefore longer and more invasive than laser.
It is also more painful and often followed by the appearance of scabs which can last several days. This hair removal method is more appropriate for small areas as it only allows to treat small areas at a time.
All our centers have employees with in-house specialized training in laser hair removal, in order to guarantee our clients the highest quality care. This team of professionals is also under the supervision of our expert committee, lead by our Medical Director, Dr. Kimberley Bertholet-George.
All CLINIK staff either hold or are in the process of obtaining the O-NIRSA attestation of competence, the new mandatory diploma in Switzerland since June 2024 for all laser hair removal treatments.
We offer the best laser technologies, as well as a treatment protocol and technique scientifically approved by our specialists. We provide our clients a safe treatment with the highest level of competence, in order to achieve the best results in a minimum number of sessions.
